Care Essentials
1. Enclosure & Climate
Because Red Iguanas grow rapidly and love to climb, vertical space is a top priority.
Terrarium: Juveniles can start in a 40-gallon tank, but adults will eventually require a custom habitat (at least 6x3x6 feet) equipped with thick, sturdy climbing branches.
Heating: Maintain a basking area between 95°F and 100°F (35°C –38°C), with an ambient cool side around 80°F (27°C).
Lighting: High-output UVB lighting is mandatory for proper calcium metabolism and health.
Humidity: Keep humidity levels high (70%–80%) through misting or automated foggers to support health and clean shedding.
2. Daily Diet & Nutrition
The Salad Base: Feed daily with nutrient-dense greens such as collard greens, mustard greens, dandelion greens, and turnip greens.
Vegetable Mix: Blend in shredded squash, bell peppers, carrots, and green beans.
Fruit Treats: Offer fruits like papaya, mango, or berries sparingly (under 10% of total diet).
Supplements: Lightly dust salads with a Calcium + D3 supplement regularly.
