Care Essentials
1. Enclosure & Climate
As fast-growing, tree-dwelling reptiles, Green Iguanas need plenty of vertical space.
Terrarium: Hatchlings and juveniles can start in a 40-gallon enclosure, but adults will require a large custom enclosure (at least 6x3x6 feet) with sturdy climbing branches.
Heating: Provide a warm basking spot reaching 95°F to 100°F (35°C–38°C) and a cool side around 80°F (27°C).
Lighting: High-output UVB lighting is essential for calcium absorption and healthy bone development.
Humidity: Maintain humidity at 70%–80% using regular misting or a fogger to ensure proper shedding and hydration.
2. Daily Nutrition
The Greens: Base their diet on calcium-rich greens like collard greens, mustard greens, dandelion greens, and turnip greens.
The Mix: Add shredded squash, bell peppers, and green beans. Fruits (like papaya or berries) should be offered as treats (10% or less of their diet).
Supplements: Dust their salad with a quality Calcium + D3 powder regularly.
