Blue Iguana (Iguana iguana) – Vibrant Elegance and Exotic Grace

Bring a striking pop of color to your reptile collection with the Blue Iguana, a breathtaking color morph of the common green iguana. Renowned for their mesmerizing turquoise, sky blue, and deep cobalt hues, these magnificent reptiles stand out as true living gems for experienced hobbyists looking for a impressive, highly interactive pet.

Key Features

  • Vivid Turquoise Coloration: Showcases intense blue hues across their body, head, and dorsal crest that grow richer and more vibrant as they mature.

  • Impressive Adult Size: Reaches an imposing 4 to 6 feet in total length (including tail) as adults, making them a captivating focal point in any enclosure.

  • Docile & Intelligent: With consistent handling and positive interaction, blue iguanas can build trust with their keepers and exhibit remarkably calm, curious personalities.

  • Strictly Herbivorous Diet: Easy to feed with fresh daily greens (collard greens, dandelion greens, arugula), vegetables, and occasional fruit treats.

Essential Care & Enclosure Needs

To keep your blue iguana healthy and maintain their brilliant colors, a proper tropical setup is required:

  • Enclosure & Space: High-vertical space is essential. Provide a large, well-ventilated enclosure equipped with sturdy branches and shelves for climbing and basking.

  • Heating & Lighting: Requires a basking spot temperature of 90°F–95°F (32°C–35°C) with a cooler gradient around 80°F (26°C). Daily high-output UVB lighting (10.0) is mandatory for proper calcium absorption and bone structure.

  • Humidity: Maintain humidity levels between 65% and 80% using regular misting or an automated fogger to support healthy shed cycles and hydration.

Why Choose a Blue Iguana?

If you are an experienced reptile enthusiast ready for a long-term commitment (they can live 15 to 20+ years with proper care), the Blue Iguana offers an unbeatable mix of exotic beauty and rewarding companionship.

Pro Tip: Make sure your habitat’s heating, UVB lighting, and humidity parameters are fully dialed in before bringing your new iguana home!
